In 2017 I decided to take a stab at writing a novel, so I started reading them again, after a hiatus that was triggered by reading a slew of terrible novels that received ecstatic reviews and prizes.

I started posting my reactions to the novels on a cursed social network, and also started trying to rank the novels I picked up to help organize and retain what I'd read. I didn't want to read the books and then forget everything about them. Shortly after the ranking exercise kicked off, I started rating them as well. 

In time I came to look forward to the reviewing, ranking, and rating as much as the reading itself. I also thought it would be sad to have all of those reactions wither on that cursed social platform, and that is why I started this website.
